5 Reasons I'm Passionate About My Work
Share
Reason number 1.... When I was a little girl I always loved art. Opening a box of 64 crayons was like Christmas morning. The smell still takes me back. To this day I love buying art supplies
Reason # 2... I grew up in Hamburg, Boston area to be exact. I was surrounded by creative people or people that wanted to be creative but, life took them down another path. My uncle was constantly trying to learn the guitar or listening to music, Uncle John was your typical hippy. We would hop into his maroon VW van and he would take me to all sorts of art festivals, he would always stop to talk to the artists. That may have been where my love of art grew.
Reason # 3... My Grandmas. While my Mom was at work, my grandma Kelly, my Moms mom would watch me. Being at the age of 11, I am sure I drove her a bit crazy and she needed a break from a kid that was whining about being bored.. So she sent me outside with the easel and paints my other grandma, my Dads mom bought me and said go paint a painting for your Grandma Evelyn. So there I was, this freckled chubby 11 year old walking outside with all my stuff and ended up sitting in front of some wild flowers and a pine tree. That was where my first real serious painting was created.
Reason # 4... Grandma Kelly mailed Grandma Evelyn the painting. My Grandma Evelyn was a business woman so she could not help watch me over summer vacation like Grandma Kelly was able to. Anyway.. my grandma Evelyn always appreciated art but was not an artist. When she received my painting, she absolutely loved it and had it framed. That made me feel absolutely amazing. It's still up in her house and she is now 96. Long story short, she put me in art lessons right in Hamburg on Lake Street at the Wallinger Doering Art Gallery. I am sure I butchered the spelling...
Reason # 5 As a kid I always struggled with all of my academics, no matter how much I studied. I found out later I have ADHD and Dyslexia. Back then they said it was just Dyslexia, as an adult it is apparent I also have ADHD. Ok sorry went off on a tangent. That one art lesson.. I finally felt a place I fit in, a place where my brain could shut off and my mind didn't wander. When I would do art its all I could focus on, my anxiety just shut off. I was finally good... no great at something. My goal is to bring that peace to everyone. Buffalo Art Room is An Art Room For Everyone!
